When you read these words, you feel as if you have caught a stranger’s sudden glance, but at the same moment you realize that this stranger is yourself, you, who is reflected in a mirror that you did not know was placed in your proximity.
Rushing does not necessarily mean averting your eyes, looking at the ground, much less moving recklessly through the crowd. Your neighbor’s footsteps are an echo of yours and you watch out for them. That’s how it goes. You pay attention to their rhythm, so that you don’t step on them, so that your steps don’t beat each other.
As a literature professor, writer, American and friend of Leonore Flis, I read her book The Bend of Time with great interest, as it describes my homeland and its culture.

She writes about what she experiences with deep and informed insight, but without sentimentality. With profound sensitivity, he sends us everything from the smell of freshly cut grass in Central Park to the words of a jogger in Louisiana.
